About the Consulting Editor Position
Consulting editors review and recommend Young Children article submissions and book manuscripts for potential publication and distribution by NAEYC. They provide recommendations regarding the NAEYC publications program. They are appointed for three-year terms.
Consulting editors are experts in their field. They are expected to devote four to six hours per month to reviewing books and/or Young Children proposals or manuscripts. They provide the editorial team with careful thoughts about and analysis of the manuscripts they review, as well as consistent feedback on all NAEYC publications. Consulting editors are also encouraged to identify and nurture potential authors and contributors to Young Children and the books program. The NAEYC editorial team communicates with consulting editors primarily through e-mail, so the successful candidate will have a working e-mail address and respond to e-mails in a timely fashion. They are also required to regularly check Young Children's online submission database, Manuscript Central, and will have a reliable internet connection.
The consulting editor position is open to any NAEYC member who submits an application. Applicants are evaluated for expertise and relevant experience. Applications are reviewed by NAEYC's editorial team, and by members of the NAEYC Executive Staff.
Term of Service
