Extension Requests
NAEYC’s accreditation system is committed to being appropriately responsive to programs that experience severe operational disruptions during the accreditation process. This will be accomplished by allowing programs that experience a severe operational disruption in their service to request an extension from the NAEYC Academy. Extensions to programs are granted on a very limited and case-by-case basis.
In determining whether to grant an extension, the following will be considered: length of the requested extension, the program’s current accreditation status and history and the reason for the requested extension.
Grounds for Appeals of Denied Extensions
Programs may appeal denied extensions to the Council for NAEYC Accreditation. The Council will only consider appeals that fall into one of the following categories: natural disaster (such as a hurricane or earthquake), human-made disaster (such as war, acts of or terrorism) or procedural errors as a result of the NAEYC Academy.
Changes in administration and/or teaching staff are not grounds for an extension.
Short delays in the timing of the accreditation on-site visit are covered in the NAEYC Academy cancellation procedure and are not addressed by this policy.
