Communication Skills for Challenging Conversations


About the Training-of-Trainers for Program Administrators

The Training-of-Trainers for Program Administrators session is a one-day overview of the five-module Communication Skills for Challenging Conversations: Training Program for Teaching Staff. It demonstrates how one of the modules should be presented to your teaching staff and provides opportunities for participants to understand the key messages of the training, the components of the training resources, and strategies for addressing challenges that might arise when they conduct the training modules with staff.

By participating in the session, you will be able to:

  • Identify the purposes, outcomes, and organization of the five communication skills modules
  • Identify the essential messages about communication skills for challenging conversations with families
  • Identify and use engaging facilitation strategies to train their teachers
  • Begin an action plan for using the modules to train teachers
  • Earn 1.0 CEU (additional fee & assessment required)

  About the Training Program for Teaching Staff

Upon completion of the Training-of-Trainers session, program administrators and staff professional development specialists will be prepared to present the five-module Training Program for Teaching Staff. The five-module program provides an overview of communication skills and is designed for teaching staff who work with young children in center- and school-based settings. The primary purpose of this training is to help teaching staff understand the concepts of family-centered care and to enhance communication skills teachers use to establish and maintain partnerships with parents.

After completing this training, your staff will be able to:

  • Describe the five principles of family-centered care
  • Identify effective listening, nonverbal, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate effective communication strategies to use when a parent has a concern

Cost per program

  • $299 for NAEYC members
  • $375 for Non-members
  • CEUs available for an additional $25 per training program
