Magazine Features Best Practices for Teachers Who Educate Our Youngest Learners
(Grand Rapids, Minn.)– Joan Bibeau, a teacher at Independent School District 318 in Grand Rapids and Leech Lake Head Start at the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation, has been recognized for her achievements as an early childhood educator by being featured on the cover of NAEYC’s Teaching Young Children (TYC), a magazine for preschool teachers.
“We are pleased to feature Joan Bibeau on our cover,” said Derry Koralek, Editor-in-Chief of TYC. “She is a dedicated educator who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the education of the children and families in her community.”
Bibeau is one of a series of excellent preschool educators chosen to be featured on the cover of TYC since the magazine’s debut in fall of 2007. TYC is distributed to nearly 35,000 readers nationwide. Each issue provides useful, research-based ideas that preschool teachers can use in their work with children and families. TYC is also available in Spanish as Tesoros Y Colores.
Bibeau, who has been teaching for 34 years, splits her day assessing preschoolers and teaching kindergartners. She has also taught elementary school, early childhood special education, parent education and college courses.
Bibeau says that she strives to infuse the community’s culture into her program by encouraging families to participate in their children’s education. In addition, she says she challenges herself daily to improve her teaching.
