NAEYC announces the hiring of Akimi Gibson as Deputy Executive Director for Strategy and Content Integration
(Washington, D.C.) - The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Akimi Gibson as Deputy Executive Director for Strategy and Content Integration. Ms. Gibson is an accomplished publishing executive with expertise in conceptualizing, developing, producing, and marketing media and services for children, teachers, families, and community-based organizations in the for-profit and non-profit sectors.
Prior to joining NAEYC, Ms. Gibson worked at Scholastic, Inc. in New York as Vice President & Publisher of their Classroom & Library Group and has held vice president positions in their Early Childhood and Primary Education Group Divisions since 2003. She has also held senior level executive management positions at major publishing houses and corporations including Simon and Schuster, the Walt Disney Company, and ThinkBox Media. She is also a children's book author, and a former infant, toddler, and pre-K educator and director, and has taught K-6 students with a specific attention to language and literacy development and English-language learners.

As part of the NAEYC team, Ms. Gibson will have management oversight for the Professional Development Training Office and the Editorial/Publications and Marketing, Communications, and Sales departments. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, received a graduate certificate in School Administration from Cambridge College in Cambridge, MA and earned a master’s degree from Wheelock College in Boston.
