Four New Members Join the NAEYC Governing Board
WASHINGTON—The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading professional organization for those working with and on behalf of young children from birth through age 8, is pleased to announce the new members of its Governing Board.
“NAEYC’s mission of high-quality early childhood education for all children has never been more prominent and important,” said Stephanie Fanjul, President of NAEYC’s Governing Board. “We welcome the contributions of these four new board members to advancing that mission.”
NAEYC’s 17-member board governs the Association, which is nationally recognized for setting standards of quality for early childhood centers, schools, and teacher preparation programs; convening thought leaders; publishing research-based position statements that guide policies and practices; and providing an array of professional development opportunities. NAEYC is committed to being a high-performing, inclusive organization. The national governing board is elected by the membership. The four new board members will begin their terms on June 1, 2012.
Cristina Gillanders
Gillanders is a scientist at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She has held a variety of roles in her 25-year career, including working as a preschool teacher, teacher educator, and researcher.
Tammy Mann
Mann is the President and CEO of The Campagna Center in Alexandria, Virginia, which serves 1,700 youth, children, and families daily. Throughout her 20-year career she has worked for organizations committed to improving outcomes for children and families, including ZERO TO THREE.
Lorraine Cooke
Cooke is the Executive Director of the Egenolf Early Childhood Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey, an NAEYC-accredited, state-funded community preschool program. She began her career working as a kindergarten teacher.
Angèle Passe
Passe is an education consultant and author at Blue Water Associates, Inc. in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has worked as a teacher, family educator, program director, and school district executive and has also authored a book on children’s transition to kindergarten. She was appointed to serve out the remaining term of a current board member.
“NAEYC’s new Governing Board members bring a depth of knowledge and experience in the early childhood education field,” said Jerlean E. Daniel, PhD, Executive Director of NAEYC. “Their deep commitment to NAEYC’s mission, expertise, and diverse perspectives will further our mission of promoting high-quality early childhood education for children from birth to 8.”
