To register to vote in the State of Idaho an individual must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Be at least 18 years of age by Election Day
- Have resided in Idaho and in the county for 30 days prior to the day of election
- Not have been convicted of a felony without civil rights having been restored
- Not be serving any sentence imposed by the conviction of a criminal offense
By mail, a person must register to vote at least 25 days before the election. Any person who is eligible to vote may register on Election Day by appearing in person at the polling place for the precinct in which he/she maintains residence and:
- By completing a registration card
- Making an oath in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State
- Providing any document which contains a valid address in the precinct
- Providing a photo ID card
Can select party affiliation at the polls.
Can register to vote in person or obtain a mail-in application from:
- County election office
- Division of motor vehicles
- Health and welfare offices
- State agencies
- Medicaid offices

Absentee Voting:
Request an application for an absentee ballot by:
- Contacting the County Clerk's office
- Downloading and printing a copy from the Secretary of State's website
- Submitting a written request with the required information (name of elector, residence address in Idaho and mailing address to which such registration or ballot is to be forwarded) signed by the applicant
If you wish to have an absentee ballot mailed to you, the request must be received by the county clerk's office by the 6th day prior to the election. You can still cast an absentee ballot in person at the absent elector's polling place (usually the county clerk's office) up until 5 p.m. the day before the election.
In order to be counted, the completed absentee ballot must be received by the County Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on the day before the election. The ballot may be mailed or hand-delivered.
