The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is in search of an Editor-in-Chief for its books program.
The target audience for NAEYC’s books is early childhood education (ECE) faculty, students, and practitioners working with children, birth–age 8. The peer-reviewed program releases 4–6 new books yearly and has annual sales of $3 million, with 80+ books in print and a staff of four.
The program’s goals are to meet the learning needs of a diverse audience, as well as provide revenue in support of NAEYC’s other programs and activities. Each book must meet the highest standards regarding ECE best practice and the research base on how young children develop and learn optimally.
Major responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief:

Shape the program’s focus, taking into consideration the diverse learning needs of the larger early childhood community

Expand the quantity and range of products published,

Acquire publishable material of high quality,

Lead the developmental editing work,

Collaborate with the other departments on collateral materials (e.g., webcasts, online chats, journal articles, brochures), and

Identify high quality books by other publishers to resell.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children, founded in 1926, is the largest professional association in the United States devoted to the field of early childhood education. Candidate requirements:
The ideal candidate will have significant experience (10+ years) at a senior level in developing and directing a comparable education publications program. Evidence of strong managerial, conceptual, and writing skills is required. Experience and/or advanced education in the early childhood field is preferred.
