Biography
Shu-Chen (Jenny) Yen, a mother and a professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent Studies, California State University, Fullerton, has more than 25 years of significant professional experience in the ECE field at the local, state, and national levels. She first began working with California Orange County AEYC’s Peace Camp in 2000, and as of today, she focuses on raising scholarships for children living in homeless shelters to attend the camp.
At the state level, she was the former Vice President and Secretary of CAAEYC, where she was the founder of the Mandarin workshops. At the national level, she currently serves on NAEYC’s Strategy and Innovation Committee and as the co-founder of NAEYC’s Asian Interest Forum; she also served as a member of the NAEYC CEO Search Committee, a member of the Affiliate Advisory Council, Nominating Committee, and a peer reviewer of the Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Program.
She also is a children’s book author who has created several free online “social stories” translated into multiple languages (e.g., Spanish, Chinese, French) to help young children and families cope and better understand natural disasters and social crises, including typhoon hurricanes, COVID-19, anti-Asian racism, and the Russian/Ukraine war (https://socialstorycenter.com).
