Frequently Asked Questions About NAEYC's IACET Accreditation
What are CEUs?
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) was created by IACET as a measurement of continuing education. The IACET CEU has evolved from a quantitative measure to a hallmark of quality training and instruction. For more information on IACET, visit iacet.org.
Which NAEYC professional development (PD) events award CEUs?
Effective 2/1/24, NAEYC can award CEUs for in-person and virtual PD events. Therefore, PD created after that date can be eligible for CEUs, per IACET. PD events that offer CEUs will be indicated at registration. The statement that denotes eligibility is as follows:
"Participants can earn (number of CEUs) for this training."
Can I get CEUs for NAEYC PD events that I attended before 2/1/24?
No, NAEYC was not authorized to award CEUs before 2/1/24.
How many CEUs will be awarded for each PD event?
The number of CEUs awarded for each PD event will vary based on the length of the training and will be indicated in the event announcement. For reference, 0.1 CEU is awarded for each one-hour PD event. For example, a five-hour training awards .5 CEU and a ten-hour training awards 1 CEU.
Are there specific criteria to earn CEUs?
Yes, registrants must complete the PD event in its entirety whether virtual or in-person, complete an assessment with a passing score of 80%, and complete the evaluation. Please note that registrants must complete all components within the allotted time after the PD event. Failure to do so will forfeit the registrants’ right to earn CEUs for the PD event.
Will I still earn certificates of completion for PD events?
Yes, registrants will earn certificates of completion for NAEYC PD events.
Will my organization accept the CEUs?
While IACET CEUs are widely recognized, NAEYC cannot guarantee that your organization, employer, or state will accept them. Individuals are encouraged to confirm with these entities prior to the PD event whether IACET CEUs will be accepted.
How do I access my CEUs after the PD event?
Upon completion of PD events, learners will receive a certificate of completion, and CEUs will be documented on the transcript within the NAEYC Learning Lab.
