Gina Forbes (she/they) is an early childhood educator and birth professional as well as founder of ReWeave, an education and consulting business that aims to center LGBTQ+ inclusive, liberation-oriented resources for parents from conception through age 8 and the professionals who work with them. Gina is committed to holistic education in support of love-based social change toward a more just world. With a background in reproductive health, early childhood development, trauma-informed practices, arts-based community education and non-profit administration, they bring a wealth of experience to the field of early childhood and beyond.
While teaching and learning alongside young children have always been integral parts of Gina’s life, they first pursued a BA in psychology at Simmons College in Boston and studied reproductive health. Gina has served as a birth doula, childbirth educator, assistant midwife, and spent more than 10 years working with families during the childbearing year in a variety of capacities. Gina later went on to get a master’s in early childhood education from Goddard College in Vermont and they have been teaching preschool aged children for over 8 years.
Currently living and working in Maine, Gina serves on the Maine AEYC Board of Directors as the Public Policy Chair. They firmly believe in the power of early childhood education as the foundation of a healthy society and hope to bring their experience to the Affiliate Council to serve and strengthen the supports in place for young children, their families, and the profession. Gina aims to serve while keeping their body, heart and mind aligned with inclusive, liberatory and anti-racist practice.
