We are deeply disturbed by last night’s narrow advancement of a budget resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives that threatens deep cuts to crucial safety net programs including Medicaid and SNAP. This vote comes despite advocacy efforts yesterday by more than 400 early childhood educators from across the nation who met with lawmakers to emphasize the critical importance of investing in early childhood education and protecting these essential programs.
Our latest workforce survey data reveal alarming trends: early educators are experiencing worsening economic security and burnout—factors driving many to consider leaving the profession altogether. These proposed cuts would only exacerbate these challenges, undermining both the educators who care for our youngest children and the families who depend on these vital services.
We will continue mobilizing early childhood advocates to share their stories about how these potential cuts would impact their families, communities, and programs. We remain committed to urging leaders in Congress to reject this harmful approach and instead to protect and expand investments in families, young children, and early childhood educators.
