Message from the CEO: Growing Together Through Practice and Connection

You are here
This spring brings exciting changes to our Association, including the launch of Educating Young Children: The Magazine for Early Learning Community and Practice. This publication—an outgrowth of Teaching Young Children—will appear digitally four times a year. As I reflect on this evolution in how we serve our members, I’m reminded of my own journey in childhood education and how much I’ve learned from educators who generously shared both their wisdom—born of lived experiences and professional know-how—as well as their friendship.
My experience as the daughter of Korean immigrants taught me early on that transformative change happens when we combine practical knowledge with genuine connection. I saw this in my parents’ determination to learn new ways of navigating systems while building relationships that supported our family’s success. I also saw this in their appreciation for the educators who positively impacted our family’s lives. Today, I see this same powerful combination at work across our early learning community.
Like the programs you lead every day, we understand that meaningful growth happens when educators have both the tools they need and the colleagues who understand their journey. For nearly a century, NAEYC has supported early childhood educators with practical, research-informed guidance while fostering the professional connections that sustain our work. As we approach our centennial year, we’re building on this legacy by reimagining how we serve you.
In each issue of Educating Young Children, you’ll find the educator-tested strategies and real-world examples that support your daily work with children and families. But you’ll also discover something equally valuable: Connections with colleagues who share your challenges, celebrate your successes, and understand your dedication to early learning excellence. Through member stories, program spotlights, and Affiliate Network news, you'll see how educators across our community are innovating, growing, and supporting each other.
These enhancements reflect our deep commitment to cultivating both your practice and your professional growth. Whether you’re seeking concrete examples to tackle today’s challenges or inspiration for your continuing journey, you’ll find both the resources you need and the community that sustains your work.
I’m continually inspired by the ways educators support each other’s growth. In my visits with members and Affiliates across the country, I see how the combination of real-world knowledge and professional connection strengthens both individual practices and our field as a whole. From a teacher demonstrating effective strategies in action to an entire program reimagining their approach to family engagement, our community becomes stronger through shared learning and professional support.
Through Educating Young Children and our other enhanced member benefits, we’ll continue providing both the practical guidance and professional connections to foster your success. Most importantly, we’ll strengthen our collective voice as early childhood educators who understand that our greatest impact comes through learning and growing together.
Thank you for being part of our professional community. I look forward to continuing this journey of growth and connection with you.
With appreciation and gratitude,
Michelle Kang
