Equitable learning environments and experiences ensure that every child sees themselves as capable STEM thinkers and doers. In the first of two special issues, Teaching Young Children explores equitable STEM learning, especially how to design learning environments, select materials, and nurture every child’s tinkering, making, and engineering.
Reflection Questions for This Issue
- Examine your learning environment. In what ways does it promote equitable STEM for each and every child?
- What is one strategy from this issue you can use to foster tinkering, making, and engineering in your setting?
- Consider your own experiences with STEM: What interests you, and what challenges you? Try a tinkering experience on your own or with a colleague.
We would like to thank General Motors for its generous support toward the development of STEM-focused initiatives, including this issue of Teaching Young Children.
